Baltimore, Sonora Reach MASL Championship

Rematch of 2015-16 Series

The Baltimore Blast and Soles de Sonora will face off in the Major Arena Soccer League‘s Ron Newman Cup Finals on April 7th and 9th.

The Blast defeated the Milwaukee Wave two games to one in the Eastern Conference finals to reach their 12th-ever indoor soccer championship series, while Sonora defeated the San Diego Sockers 2-0. Sonora advances to the championship series for the second time in its two years of play, while Baltimore is trying to capture its eighth indoor soccer title. A Baltimore championship would also be their first back-to-back championship since they won the Major Indoor Soccer League and National Indoor Soccer League titles in 2007-08 and 2008-09.

The two teams were among the best in the league all season, with Baltimore holding a 14-6 regular season record and Sonora finishing at 17-3 with an undefeated home record.  Sonora also had a +110 goal differential through the regular season, and they scored 230 goals – 81 more than the next highest-scoring team.

The championship series is a rematch of the 2015-16 series, which Baltimore won two games to none. The first game is on April 7th at 8:05 PM Eastern in Baltimore, while game two and the tie-breaking mini-game (if necessary) take place at 9:05 PM Eastern in Sonora.
