Gladiators Take Two-Year Hiatus

Arena Renovations Force Break

The Cleveland Gladiators have suspended operations from the Arena Football League for two years.

The Gladiators will miss the 2018 and 2019 seasons due to major renovations at Quicken Loans Arena. The arena is also home to the Cleveland Cavaliers of the NBA, and renovations are being planned around their seasons. Major work will begin as soon as the Cavaliers’ season is over, which covers at least half of the AFL season.

The absence of the Gladiators will leave the AFL with five teams for the 2018 season with the addition of an expansion team in Albany.
