High-Intensity Interval Training
New Study Shows Benefits
A research study into high-intensity interval training (HIIT) shows that it may help maintain strength and physical performance with age.
HIIT is a very intense workout that lasts for a short period of time, often half an hour or less, with a longer recovery period. While HIIT is becoming a popular way for people to exercise but don’t have a lot of spare time. the University of Buffalo study shows that the workouts can also help reduce frailty with old age. Seniors participating in the workout can enhance quality of life and allow senior citizens to be active and healthy longer.
So far, the University’s study has only been conducted on mice, but because of similar aging characteristics between mice and humans, researchers expect similar results. They also recommend consulting a doctor before starting HIIT.
