MASL Adds Toronto Expansion

Team Launches In 2018

The Major Arena Soccer League announced that it will add an expansion team in Toronto. It is the MASL’s first international expansion team in Canada.

The team will play at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga, part of the Toronto metropolitan area.  The owners chose to start play in the 2018-19 season in order to allow more time to build fan support and put together team staff.

The announcement was part of the league’s pre-championship press conference discussing the future of the league.  Commissioner Josh Schaub also announced that the Brownsville Barracudas, which did not play in the 2016-17 season, will relocate to Hidalgo, Texas, to play as the Rio Grande Valley Barracudas.  The league last had a team in Hidalgo when Hidalgo La Fiera, previously known as the Rio Grande Valley Flash, launched in 2012 and folded midway through the 2014-15 season.
