NLL Reintroduces the Philadelphia Wings

Team Returns as Expansion Team

The National Lacrosse League introduced the new Philadelphia Wings as an expansion team set to play in the 2018-19 season.

Original Philadelphia Wings logo from 1987 to 2014.

The league’s Philadelphia expansion announcement did not include the team name or logo, which were subject to a fan “name the team” contest. The Wings name was previously used by a founding member of the league from 1987 until it folded in 2014 and was “clearly the favorite” in the contest, according to the team. The original logo inspired the updated version the revived Wings will use.

The Philadelphia Wings will join the San Diego Gulls as expansion clubs in the 2018-19 NLL season, giving the league 11 teams for the first time since the 2010 season.
