USIndoor Expands Concussion Policy
WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 16, 2015 (Virginia Beach, VA) – The United States Indoor Sports Association announced today its support of U.S. Soccer’s Concussion Initiative Guidelines, designed to improve concussion awareness in youth soccer and to reduce health concerns.
The statement follows USIndoor’s 2014 requirement that all USIndoor-certified referee instructors and officials take the free concussion course available from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, entitled “Heads Up Online Training Course.” Now, following U.S. Soccer’s lead on youth soccer, USIndoor is urging all indoor soccer facilities to begin enforcement of the following amendment to The Official Rules of Indoor Soccer:
10.1 Fouls: A Foul is assessed to a player … who:
(j) For U11 and younger, has contact with the ball with any part of the head, whether intentional or unintentional.
USIndoor will monitor developments in U.S. Soccer’s initiative and communicate additional changes as needed.
In case of questions contact USIndoor Director of Officials Said Sanhoury at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Let’s keep our game fun and safe for all to enjoy!
