John Burns (Incumbent)

Managing Member, Sportsplex Management Group, Gaithersburg, MD
Contact: 301-370-4671jburns@sportsplexmg.com

I have been in the indoor sports business since 1998, opening my first facility in 2000. Over the years, I have built or acquired 5 facilities and currently own three. I have seen our industry evolve as sports trends, the economy, and clientele demographics have changed. I have a deep understanding of what it takes to operate and be successful in the indoor sports business. I have been a US Board member since 2016, and I believe strongly in the mission of the Association to provide resources for owners to not only be successful, but to adapt to the ever changing landscape of the sports world. I feel that I can continue to contribute valuable information, and help advise the Association on the needs of my fellow business owners. I appreciate everyone’s consideration, and I will help advance the industry any way I can.

Joe Fernando

Managing Member/Owner, SportsHouse, Redwood City, CA
Contact: (cell) 650-274-5146, joe@sportshouse.us

I am a 35-year veteran operator of numerous sports themed restaurants, nightclubs and indoor sports facilities. I enjoy sharing ideas and continuing to learn from others. A good example of this is when I had the opportunity to lead a number of COVID meetings for our facility operators over that sensitive period during 2021-22.

During my term I would like to collaborate on a US INDOOR regional indoor soccer tournament featuring the best teams from the best divisions within various country regions (west, central, east, south). Maybe host the championships in Las Vegas to coincide with annual conference next year.

Elaine Matthews

Director of Marketing & New Business Development, High Velocity Sports, Canton, MI
Contact: 734-487-7678elaine@hvsports.com

I am the Director of Marketing and New Business Development for High Velocity Sports (HVS) in Canton, MI.  I have helped HVS grow from a startup to an industry leading endeavor over the last 20 years.  Initially an indoor soccer and roller hockey facility, we have embraced new trends and improved revenue streams by converting the roller hockey rink into 4 basketball/volleyball courts, changed over two small soccer fields into futsal courts, and added an attached 78,000sq/ft dome to our main building.

I love change and encourage our staff to roll with new possibilities on a daily basis!  It’s my passion to bring in new types of events like Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, gymnastics and martial arts competitions, canine agility contests, cultural events along with supporting alternate sporting trends like lacrosse, flag football, outsourced leagues, and offsite ventures.  Being a part of this association has given me confidence, resources, and incredible ideas to learn and improve both professionally and personally.  I’m fortunate to have an ownership group that encourages me to act and think like an owner.  It would be an honor to serve on the board to see where we can take US Indoor Sports in the future.

Patrick Keane

President and CFO, Boulder Indoor Soccer and Longmont Indoor Soccer, Boulder, CO
Contact: 720-273-7198, patrick@boulderindoorsoccer.com

I am the President and CFO of Boulder Indoor Soccer and Longmont Indoor Soccer. Since the inception of Boulder Indoor Soccer in 2003, I have grown my expertise in land acquisition, building development, business efficiency and profit maximization. With a primary focus on startup facilities, I have opened multiple businesses including, Boulder Indoor Futsal, Boulder Indoor Cycling, Longmont Indoor Soccer and Boulder County Soccer Club with a variety of other business partners. With my 16 years of ownership experience in Indoor Sports businesses, I will be a strong asset for the USIndoor Sports Association. As a board member of USIndoor, I will ensure that all facility members get the most out of their annual membership and help USIndoor maintain its status as a positive fixture in the United States indoor sports market.

“I am certain that Patrick would be a very valuable addition to the Board. One of the qualities that I appreciate the most about Patrick is his ability to apply business acumen and pragmatism without compromising the spirit and community that is central to the success of both facilities. Patrick is a strong team player. He is very attuned to the importance of relationships between all stakeholders in our companies – from owners to employees to customers – and makes solid decisions that balance the needs of everyone. I also value Patrick’s clear-eyed yet flexible and open-minded approach to problem-solving. He’s realistic in his assessments of issues and unafraid to think creatively while remaining strategic in his search for solutions. He is also thorough and takes the time to do his homework before implementing his ideas. I trust Patrick completely with the running of our businesses, and cannot recommend him more highly to your Board.” —Patricia Ammann, Co-owner, BIS & LIS
