New Leadership Ready to Rise
Almost twenty-five years to the day since founding USIndoor, Don Shapero will officially hang up his boots at the conclusion of the association’s upcoming Annual Facility Operators Conference, May 31-June 3 in Nashville, TN.
What began in Santa Monica, CA, in 1997 as the United States Indoor Soccer Association, having developed the world’s first referee program for recreational indoor soccer facilities in 1999, and attracting its first facility members and holding its first national conference in 2001, has morphed and grown over the decades, all under Don’s steady hand. USIndoor, now better known as the United States Indoor Sports Association, resembles well over 500 total members, albeit somewhat off its peak pre-Covid, consisting of facility, referee, startup facility and provider members.
“There reaches a time in almost all businesses’ life cycles that fresh perspectives and talents are required to carry out their true purpose and ultimate vision,” said Don. “I think we are at this point both for USIndoor and me, personally.”
Long-time industry champion, Mark Grossman, along with business partner Chris Fox, will initially assume the association’s leadership. Effective immediately, Mark becomes Chairman of USIndoor’s Advisory Board. He will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day as of June 7.
Those familiar with the industry will recognize Mark and Chris as decades-long sponsors of USIndoor, committee members and, under The Monument Sports Group, leaders of USIndoor’s popular Insurance Program. “I can’t think of more worthy leadership, who will selflessly and responsibly guide USIndoor for the betterment of all its members, continued Don.
Mark added, “Don’s certainly paid his dues, having achieved incredible success, established remarkable vision, and is leaving USIndoor in strength, from its stable operations to its people. He’s placed his faith and trust in me and Chris, and it’s our mission to prove worthy to him and the membership at large, and we are so committed.”
Among new management’s initial objectives are to maintain USIndoor’s positive direction and growth in membership and revenue streams.
