NLL Expands to Las Vegas

NHL Legend Wayne Gretzky Joins Ownership

The National Lacrosse League will add a team in Las Vegas, which will begin play in the fall of 2022. The team boasts NHL legend Wayne Gretzky among its ownership group.

Along with Gretzky, the team is owned by golfer Dustin Johnson, Brooklyn Nets coach and former basketball star Steve Nash, and billionaire Joseph Tsai, who also has ownership stakes in the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets and G League’s Long Island Nets, Major League Soccer’s Los Angeles FC, the WNBA’s New York Liberty, and the NLL’s San Diego Seals.

The club’s home will be the Michelob ULTRA Arena at the Mandalay Bay Resort on the Las Vegas Strip, which it will share with the WNBA’s Las Vegas Aces.

The addition of an NLL team is the latest for a city that wasn’t home to pro sports team until 2017, when the NHL added the Vegas Golden Knights franchise. Since then, the city has added the WNBA’s Las Vegas Aces and the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders and is exploring the addition of other sports teams.
